Green methanol is considered the most efficient synthesis product for storing carbon from the atmosphere and hydrogen from green energy in liquid form. Compared to conventional fuels, it enables the complete avoidance of fossil CO2 emissions and thus plays an important role in global climate protection.

We will build a production plant for green methanol in Paraguay. Together with EPC partners and joint venture companies on site, the first phase of the project is scheduled to start in 2025. Production start is planned for 2027.

With this project, we are sending a strong signal in favour of sustainable energy solutions and making a significant contribution to the development of green energy.

OUR COMMITMENT

In a net-zero scenario, renewable methanol will become the new oil. Our long-term goal is to produce renewable methanol at a price below that of fossil fuels. With our first localisation in Paraguay, we will be able to produce synthetic (RFNBO) grade methanol. We believe that biogenically captured carbon as a feedstock will not be available in sufficient quantities, and therefore technology preparation for atmospheric CO2 capture will be essential in the future.
