Green methanol is considered the most efficient synthesis product for storing carbon from the atmosphere and hydrogen from green energy in liquid form. Compared to conventional fuels, it enables the complete avoidance of fossil CO2 emissions and thus plays an important role in global climate protection.

As the most sustainable liquid carrier of green H2 and green CO2, green methanol can be used as a feedstock for virtually any fuel!

Demand for green methanol will continue to grow strongly, even outside the fuel sector.

The outlook from IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) and the Methanol Institute predicts an additional demand of 400 billion litres per year from sustainable sources by 2050, on top of the current demand of 100 billion litres per year from fossil sources - a factor of 5!

 

 


 

   eMethanol

It can be used in a variety of ways, both in existing markets and in the emerging green economy. In terms of power-to-liquid technologies, there are only two medium-term industrial solutions - Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and methanol synthesis. In particular, in terms of overall system efficiency, direct use of synthetic methanol can be far superior and is also still very competitive as a feedstock for the production of conventional drop-in fuel grades.  Significant conversion refinery capacity is being built for methanol-to-jet (eSAF) technology and, with some delay, for methanol-to-gasolene (eGasolene). It should be noted that direct use of methanol as a primary fuel is gaining momentum in the marine industry, and direct blending into gasolene for cars can also be achieved to a limited extent, taking advantage of the high overall system efficiency of direct use.
